What a challenging year this has been!
Full remote feeding for all participating families for the first few months. We then shifted gears to take care of remote learning students that had to follow classroom times(different for each grade level/school).
Then shift again to bagging 3-5 day meal kits to send home with students twice a week and again to accommodate the five-day learning students as well. Our latest adjustment was to cook, cool, portion, and bag up daily sack lunches and breakfast for the next day.
Now, in April we will be able to serve our students personally and watch them enjoy the fresh scratch-made items! Breakfast will be sent home for the next morning for any student who chooses to order.
Throughout all of these challenges, we have continued to offer and serve out Five Day Meal kits for the participating remote learning families. Occasionally, we have also served meal kits to our students who were quarantined and contacted the district for continued assistance.
Each month it seems there has been another hurdle to overcome: staff shortages, food shortages, and substitutions, overstock of commodities, and quarantined staff at times.
Each month, the district's food service staff has risen to the challenge and has done everything they could to make sure each child received a reimbursable meal for each school day.
Thank you to our district's families for the patience and support through this last year. You've helped to make our job easier and kept alive our desire to serve your children.
